Winchester Street Pastors
June 2011 saw the launch of the Street Pastors Scheme in Winchester. This church run initiative was launched on 18th June and has received funding from Hampshire Constabulary, Winchester Community Safety Partnership and Winchester BID.
The main aim of the scheme is to calm aggressive behaviour, support vulnerable individuals, provide practical help and engage with individuals involved in the night time economy. A core service will be provided with a minimum of 4 workers per night on Friday and Saturday nights from 21:30 to 03:30 hrs.
Research suggests that where street pastors are based in towns and cities there has been a reduction in violence and anti social behaviour (ASB) in the night time economy. Reducing violence against the person and associated ASB continue to be priorities for the Partnership and this scheme will help WCSP to deliver on its priorities.
Further information about the scheme can be found on the Winchester BID web site and the Winchester Street Pastors web site please see the related web links for more details.
