November 2008 - Drugs

Conference 2008

Winchester Community Safety Partnership held its third annual conference on Wednesday 26th November 2008 at the Intech Science Centre and Planetarium in Winchester. The principle discussion was based around the four strands of the National Drug Strategy and how they impact on the work of the Partnership at a local level.

Over 90 delegates attended the conference, representing a wide range of agencies from the voluntary sector, community and statutory services. Those attending the event entitled ‘Charlie says….’ , heard from a range of professionals from national and local organisations. They included a representative from the Home Office Drug Strategy Unit, Hampshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team and Housing Landlord Services. The audience was also provided with an insight into the life of ex service users and a demonstration from the passive drugs dog ‘Charlie’ and his handler.

The conference provided delegates with a networking opportunity as well as the chance to participate in a Q & A panel session. The panel members were made up from the key speakers, who were asked to respond to some pre-panel questions as well as taking ‘live’ questions from the audience..

Overall feedback was very positive from those who attended the conference with a number of requests being put forward in support of more events of this type, to be held in the future.
