March 2010 - Young People
Winchester Community Safety Partnership held its annual conference on Tuesday 9th March 2010 at the Intech Science Centre and Planetarium in Winchester.
Over 100 delegates attended the conference, representing a wide range of agencies which included the voluntary sector, community and statutory organisations.
Delegates attending the event heard from a range of professionals coming from national and local organisations. They included representatives from the Office for Criminal Justice Reform, The PRISM Network, Stonham Domestic Abuse Services, Hampshire Constabulary, Wessex Youth Offending and Portsmouth City Council. The audience was shown a DVD which provided an insight into a new dance academy for young people which uses professional contemporary dance training to challenge young people who have failed to achieve in more conventional education settings and who may be offenders or at serious risk of offending.
The conference also provided delegates with a networking opportunity and a chance to participate in a Q & A panel session. Panel members were made up from the speakers, who were asked to respond ‘live’ to questions from the audience.
Overall feedback was very positive from those who attended the conference with a number of requests being put forward in support of more events of this type being held in the future.
