Recommendation: Matty Matheson is a well-known Canadian chef who tells it like it is, which makes Home Style Cookery fun to read and easy to cook from. He would make this chowder the next day with whatever seafood was left over after we filled our bellies with mussels, clams, and oysters. Many, many of these recipes focus on less-used and hard-to-find cuts of meat and on seafood, which is expensive and, for me personally, mostly undesirable. This is a very personal cookbook, full of essays and headnotes that share Matty’s life—from growing up in Fort Erie, exploring the wonders of Prince Edward Island, struggling and learning as a young chef in Toronto, and, eventually, his rise to popularity as one of the world’s most recognizable food personalities.I found that the recipe easy to follow, but as Matty says at the beginning of his book, all of these take time to prepare. I didn’t know you could make Bolognese taste better than it already did but hey ho, a bit of milk and some eggs and oh boy you’re into a winner! Anyway, this one was interesting, the recipes look nice, good pictures quality, lot of sea foods and meat so I'm happy with that, but really a good variety of recipes, everything look a bit fat and greasy, not food for loosing weight here, but definitely a couple of them that I will try!

In Home Style Cookery, Matty opens up his his home and shares his approachable and tasty style of cooking. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. The photos are of great quality - it would make for a great table book if only for the pictures - the writing flows, and the recipes are easy to follow and understand. This book is like cooking alongside Matty, sharing stories that are equal parts heartwarming and inappropriate while helping you cook dishes that are full of love. Pretty time consuming and expensive to make a lot of recipes from this book in my opinion but if thats what you’re into its great.Matty’s no-nonsense approach to food makes these recipes practical enough for all, while his creativity will entice seasoned cooks.

I very much enjoyed reading his commentaries and have marked about half a dozen recipes to test before the holiday season begins.Despite being aimed primarily at the North American market, gram and ml equivalents are given for the many cup measurements which makes this book eminently usable in the UK. I have the Italian beef (braised roast with pickled veggies served as a sandwich) marked to try soon. The recipes and accompanying food photography by Quentin Bacon and Pat O’Rourke make for an incredible cookbook on their own, but the real heart of this book is the story of Matty Matheson himself. Recipes Matty also offers his favorite desserts, like his wife Trish’s Chocolate Chip Cookies and Creme Caramel.
