About this deal

Forget everything you previously knew about the Structure series because the Structure 23 is unlike any other Structure shoe to date. Your foot sits inside the midsole and there are lateral side rails which keep your foot centred through transitions.

Nike Air Zoom Structure 22 Review, Facts, Comparison

The problem, however, is that looks alone do not make a shoe. The sole unit was too firm, unresponsive and it took a couple of miles on every run to feel comfortable running in them. The React Infinity Run is very comfortable underfoot, even while running fast due to the springy and cushioned React foam in the midsole. Nike has actually added 24 percent more React foam in these shoes compared with the Nike Epic React 2.

As a stability runner the structure provided by the upper helps hold your foot in place while you stride, and this is important. On the medial side, the midsole is built up more than on the lateral side so there is a noticeable level of under-arch support without the firm poking sensational. I stopped and retie my shoes thinking it was the laces being loose. I took off again but the heel was still loose and my midfoot hurt because the shoes were tied too tight.Instead of Flywire cables, there are soft, mesh panels which are the Cucumber Calm colour that you can see through the perforations at the midfoot. These work much better than Flywires or Flywire straps Nike has been using. Widened forefoot midsole and outsole. This provides extra stability and reduces lateral roll which may cause a rolled ankle. This new shape is very noticeable from above. (the image below shows what I mean)

DPT/Footwear Science: B+ ( Solid stability design, but some claims regarding cushioning that are not supported by evidence and feel of the rearfoot midsole) There’s also a small Zoom Air unit in the forefoot of the Structure 24 which is only situated under the ball of the foot and doesn’t cover the entire forefoot like in the Vomero 16 and the Pegasus 38. If you were looking forward to a similar shoe to the Structure 22, you will be bitterly disappointed in the new Structure 23. It was a bold move for Nike to transform their last textbook stability trainer into a supportive, neutral trainer. Nike’s research must have indicated that the number of runners wanting a supportive, neutral trainer outweighed the number of runners wanting a “true” stability trainer. The Zoom Air bag in the forefoot of the Structure 23 is similar to the setup in the Pegasus 33/34 where you could feel the air bag through the strobel lining and the insole.

Those models run anywhere from 110 to 130, while the Zoom Structure are right in the middle with a price tag of 120. Shorten, M., & Mientjes, M. I. (2011). The ‘heel impact’force peak during running is neither ‘heel’nor ‘impact’and does not quantify shoe cushioning effects. Footwear Science , 3 (1), 41-58. My first run was a 10 K easy run and there were no surprises: the ride of the Structure 24 felt identical to the Structure 23. I could still feel the prominent airbag in the forefoot and the ride was supportive without being firm or stiff. Is your closet getting a little crowded with all those specialty shoes you’ve been collecting? It’s true, right? Stability: A-[Stable Neutral But Really Mild/Moderate Stability] (Noticeable medial resistance from long lateral crash pad, firmer ride and lateral guidance lines)

It is however noticeable so if you are completely anti having any arch support, then maybe these shoes aren’t for you. Try them for yourself and see what you think. As I said, they haven’t bothered me. There was a time when the Structure consisted of a tri-density midsole. It changed to a dual-density midsole in the Structure 20, 21 and 22. Now, it consists of a single-density midsole. The FlyKnit Upper is made from Nike’s latest Flyknit technology, Flyknit Loft. It has three layers of breathable mesh, which helps to keep its shape while remaining breathable. FlyKnit uppers have historically been less durable than a more standard construction but the 3 layers in this FlyKnit loft material make this one much more durable. Initially, I felt the midsole was on the firm side but satisfactory. After putting over 100 miles in them, I can honestly say they just get better with age.

The Nike Structure has never been a soft shoe. It was the firm midsole that gave it its highly stable ride. However, the Zoom Structures were average, at best. Yes, I was able to log my miles, but the sole unit was too firm and the upper too washy.
