Winchester Youth Council

Winchester Youth Council has recently held their second meeting on Monday 19th May at Abbey House. The meeting was very well attended by young people from across the District.

The meeting was successfully chaired by year a 10 pupil from Westgate School, Chloe Harrison, who is also an MYP (Member of Youth Parliament).

Following on from a nomination and voting process the youth council has now elected interim roles:

Chair - Chloe Harrison, Westgate School
Vice Chair - Kerrick Whalley, Westgate School
Treasurer - Thomas Cawte, Swanmore
Secretary – Hannah Wade, Kings School

Youth Council priorities were agreed, following on from consultation carried out at the ‘Who Runs This Place’ event in September.
• Promoting positive images of young people
• Transport
• Bullying
• More leisure activities for young people

The next Youth Council meeting has been scheduled for Monday 16th June. Items that will be discussed at this meeting include:
• Inputting into the Local Development Framework
• Transport Audit with Winchester City Council
• Positive images of young people award in connection with Children & Young People Now magazine.

Winchester Youth Council is supported by Winchester City Council, Schools and Hampshire County Council Children’s services ( Winchester youth Team).
