Current Projects

  • The sexual health team from Hampshire Community Health Care organised a programmed called “Our 1 Night Stand” in Winchester on 1st July.  The programme includes team visits to several pubs frequented by young people in the Winchester town centre to speak to them about safer sex, offering them the chance to do a Chlamydia test on the spot.  A similar programme has been run in Basingstoke.  For more information on that programme, you can visit this website:

  • “Mini UNICEF” study of children in the district to assess their overall health and wellbeing based on UNICEF framework
  • Local efforts in progress to meet the Government’s target for each community to be served by a Children’s Centre by 31 March 2010
  • “It’s okay to play” project—promoting natural and adventurous play activities in District woodlands, a project led by Winchester City Council with support from the Forestry Commission. Development of play sites at Creech Wood between Denmead and Southwick, at Micheldever Forest and at West Wood near Sparsholt for this purpose
  • Commissioning of a research piece on transport issues facing older people to inform future plans of the Community Transport Services
  • Development of handyperson and gardening services to assist older people and improve their quality of life
  • Development of an Older People's Action Forum, and a Directory of Services for Older People
  • Publicity campaign to challenge negative stereotypes of older people across the district
