Health and Wellbeing Group
The primary aim of the Health and Wellbeing Group is to improve the health and wellbeing of residents in the Winchester District by stimulating action to reduce health inequalities, addressing the wider social, environmental and economic influences on wellbeing and aligning resources to address agreed priority areas.
The Health and Wellbeing Partnership (H&W) has worked to support all of the efforts and initiatives taken by both the Children and Young Peoples’ Partnership and Older Persons’ Partnership during 2010. In addition, the partnership has had successes such as:
• Supporting the Community Planning efforts ongoing in Stanmore, Winchester
• Supporting the ongoing work of the Regional Tobacco Policy Manager in an effort to lower adult and young peoples’ smoking rates
• Supporting the work done by WCC and other partners to increase the number of programmes available to young people, particularly those living in areas of deprivation, to lower the rate of childhood obesity.
• Working with the Sport and Physical Activity Alliance to encourage more participation in sport throughout the District, particularly in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
In addition, the H&W Partnership has provided consultation and approval for Healthier Hampshire - Hampshire’s first Health and Wellbeing Partnership Strategy, the Winchester City Council Community Strategy refresh and the Older Peoples’ Wellbeing Strategy.
