Sport and Physical Activity Alliance

A key government priority at national, regional and local level is to create a healthier, more physically active and sporting nation. To help achieve this, there is a strategic commitment to a more joined up approach to sport and physical activity, through the establishment of local Alliances of key organisations.

The Winchester District Sport and Physical Activity Alliance Advisory Board is made up of key local organisations with an interest in sport and physical activity.

This partnership has been formed involving key local organisations including Winchester City Council, Sport Hampshire & IOW, DC Leisure, Sparsholt College, Hampshire Primary Care Trust, Winchester Area Community Action, Hampshire County Council, Winchester District Community Safety Partnership, The University of Winchester, Toynbee School Sport Partnership, Hamble School Sport Partnership and the Forestry Commision.

Some words from the Chair

'Sport, by its very nature, tends to bring together people who are committed to working together to achieve a shared vision of what can be achieved. Through the hard work of the partners within this group, in its first three years of operation, the SPAA has already made significant changes to the delivery of Sport and Physical Activity within the district and it is a pleasure to be involved as Chair of this organisation.

The coming years are an exciting and vital period to be involved in sport. London 2012 brings with it the challenge that we work together to ensure that there is a lasting legacy of benefits which are available to all of the residents of the District. It is through partnerships, such as the SPAA, that this will become a reality.'
