Health and Wellbeing

What does Health and Wellbeing mean?

What are the most important changes we will notice when this outcome becomes a reality for communities in the Winchester District?

So that we know whether or not we have achieved Health and Wellbeing for the Winchester District, the WDSP has set out in the Community Strategy a number of changes we will notice once we have acheived our aim:

Lifestyle Choices

  • Healthy lifestyles are the norm and there is little preventable illness
  • Drug and alcohol misuse is reduced and those suffering from drug or alcohol dependency find effective support and treatment quickly and easily
  • People are not restricted by health problems from finding fulfilment or from achieving their goals
  • Good health is enjoyed by everyone no matter where they live in the District.
  • People are able to achieve a good work/life balance
  • There are few preventable accidents in the home and workplace
  • People participate in volunteering, sports, leisure, cultural and social opportunities to the benefit of their physical, mental and emotional health

Provision of Services

  • A full range of health and care services are available. These are excellent, affordable, easy to get to, and responsive to local needs
  • All housing is of a decent standard and meets the recognised needs of all sections of the community
  • Rural transport services connect communities to other towns and villages.
  • A wide range of affordable sports and physical activities are available locally
  • A wide range of leisure and cultural opportunities are available, affordable and easy to reach, and their benefits to people’s health is maximised.
  • A wide range of lifelong learning opportunities are available, affordable and easy to reach.
  • Mental well-being is promoted and support services are available for those who experience problems
