What will an inclusive society look like?

What are the most important changes we will notice when this outcome becomes a reality for communities in the Winchester District?

So that we know whether or not we have achieved an Inclusive Society for the Winchester District, the WDSP has set out in the Community Strategy a number of changes we will notice once we have acheived our aim:

Equality and Diversity
  • Equal opportunities are actively promoted in all aspects of life
  • The positive contribution made by children and young people is recognised by other generations
  • The positive contribution made by older people is recognised by other generations
  • People feel accepted as themselves without discrimination on grounds of race, gender, age, disability or sexual orientation.
  • There is a high level of understanding and respect between those who follow different faiths or who follow no faith
  • The needs of future generations are taken into account in current decisions and actions
Participation
  • Everyone has the opportunity of employment or starting their own business
  • Local voluntary organisations, clubs and societies are thriving because of the large number of volunteers involved
  • People feel they can exercise real choice, and influence decisions which affect them
  • People participate in planning for the future of their communities, e.g. through neighbourhood plans, and town and parish plans
  • Communities of interest are involved in planning for their specific requirements and aspirations
  • People have strong friendship networks
  • Everyone has access to education, training and lifelong learning
Services and Infrastructure
  • Housing, particularly affordable housing, is available for people to live and work within the District, and for those with a local connection
  • Everyone is able to access the services/facilities and opportunities they need in their local area or via affordable transport services which meet the needs of those who do not drive
  • High quality, affordable childcare facilities are available and accessible to working parents
  • People have sufficient income to live on (and fuel poverty is addressed)
  • Our schools and colleges play a greater role in providing leisure, learning and social opportunities for the wider community
  • Winchester strives to be a Fair Trade District, where Fair Trade goods are readily available
