Achievements from Action Plan 2007 - 2008

Develop a County wide Sport and Physical Activity Database and Website:
In March 2007 Sport Hampshire & IOW created an on-line Hampshire Sports Guide ( http://www.sporthampshireiow.co.uk/findacluborfacility.htm) which provides information about sports facilities and clubs across the County.
Incentives to increase physical activity levels:
Buy one get one free swimming - 2 successful 'buy one get one free' swimming campaigns were run at River Park Leisure Centre in 2007. On both occasions swimming participation at the centre has increased.
Passport to Leisure Schemes-There have been two advertising campaigns to promote the Passport to Leisure scheme at River Park Leisure Centre, with the centre seeing an increase in the overall visits linked to the scheme. Meadowside Leisure Centre, Whiteley established their own Passport to Leisure Scheme in 2007 and have seen a steady uptake in members.
Over 50's session - The Meadowside Leisure Centre created two over 50's sessions at the centre with approximately 20 people attending each session.
Evening Football
A taster session was held at River Park Leisure Centre in April 2007 attended by over 60 young people. Forthnightly sessions in partnership with NACRO were established at the centre in November 2007 and ran until March 2008 with an average of 15 young people per session.
Multi Sports Taster Event
Linked to Sparsholt College's Open Day, held in May 2007, 130 pupils from the Henry Beaufort Cluster Primary Schools were invited to the open day and given the opportunity to try their hand at a number of different sports. The coaching was provided by Sparsholt College students and a number of children identified new abilities in sports they had not played before.
Expand opportunities for adult active lifestyles and exercise referrals - appointment of Active Lifestyles Coordinator
At the beginning of 2008 Winchester Ciy Council in partnership with DC Leisure submitted an application to Sport England's Community Investment Fund to support the creation of an Active Lifestyles Coordinator for the district. The successful applicant took up their post in June 2008 and is currently establishing an Active Lifestyles Programme for the District.
Develop a Sport and Physical Activity Volunteer Bank - linked to Do It and V Base
Working with The Volunteer Centre, Winchester a physical activity volunteer bank has been established which will enable local sports clubs and organisations to register their volunteering opportunities with The Volunteer Centre. Once registered volunteering opportunities will appear on the National Volunteering Database 'Do - it', where potential volunteers can be matched to suitable opportunities. Establish Multi Sports Environments and Multi Sports Clubs - Bar End Sports Facility (The Winchester Sports Stadium)
In partnership with The University of Winchester, Winchester City Council and with the support of local sports clubs, Sport Hampshire & IOW and Sport England an 8-lane athletics track and field facility and all weather hockey pitch has been created at Bar End. The facility, formally known as the Winchester Sports Stadium will officially be open for use in Summer 2008. For further information visit The Winchester Sports Stadium.
Complete Sports Facility Audit for the Winchester District
Winchester City Council and East Hampshire District Council jointly commissioned consultants 'In Space Consultancy LTD' to undertake an study of open space, sport and recreation facilities in the District. The study was completed in April 2008 and can be viewed by visiting Open Space, Sport and Recreation Study.
