About this deal

A configuration that is obtained from the Plus Utility cannot be used by device UI, and the other way around.

Industry-leading 5-year warranty and unlimited technical support. Technical Support: +1 866 225 8139; Hotline en Français: +1 855 987 5465. You can try to reset the switch to factory default settings by holding the Factory Reset button on the switch for 10 seconds. Note that this will reset the configuration of the switch to default settings. Once done, re-try the steps above. I suspect that it costs Netgear less to use quality components in a switch that they put a lifetime warranty on than to save a few cents up front simply to have to pay to process the RMA a few years down the road, so it’s obvious why Netgear would make this choice, but what it means to you is that that the new GS108 switch (in theory) should be slightly more reliable than both Netgear’s own GS308 and TP-Link’s TL-SG108.

V2.06.10 has 3 firmware images. Each supports a different language for the WEB GUI: English, German, and Japanese. The GS108PEv3 does supportIEEE 802.3af (== IEEE 802.3at Type 1) devices only. The max PoE budget is 53W, this allows at least three ports to guarantee the 15.4W Class 0 or Class 3 device. The time-out period of an IGMP host is not exactly 260 seconds but could be anywhere between 260 and 520 seconds.

Something to note is that the Netgear GS308 already had the little rubber feet attached from the factory, the Netgear GS108 and TP-Link TL-SG108 don’t have them pre-installed – they come extra in a little baggy. If you’re a really, really lazy person you should probably buy the GS308. Several weeks ago,I noticed, via my network monitoring software, that the web interface on one of my GS108PEv3 switches had dropped offline. However, the switch appeared to functioning normally otherwise. Ipower-cycled, and no dice. I decided to factory reset. From analyzing the advertised features, our own performance benchmarks, and taking each switch apart to see how well they are built and the quality of components used, we’ve come to the following conclusions. While both Netgear switches use 12V power supplies @ 0.5A, the TP-Link is specced at 9V 0.6A. Personally I prefer the standard 12V setup since it’s easier to find a replacement adapter should the original one fail, and you don’t have to worry about an end user accidentally plugging in a 12V power supply into a 9V switch, which could damage it. If you do the math, 12V x 0.5A = 6W, and 9V x0.6A = 5.4W, so all three switches should be similar in power usage. We shall see later if this really is the case. V2.06.14 has 3 firmware images. Each supports a different language for the WEB GUI: English, German, and Japanese.

Will this work as a "dumb" switch?I don't consider a "yes" answer as a solution, but only as an indication of whether I can use it in this capacity. I bought these particular switches for VLAN and POE functionality. I have them tied to a Cisco 4948, and I want the VLANs.

Random (non-PoE) Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, or Gigabit Ethernet devices (for examplea LAN port on your router) should be able to establish a link on the PoE ports (Left Speed & Activity port LED) as well as on the non-PoE ports (Right Status Port LED) as per the NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Plus Switch with 4-Port PoE GS108PEv3 Installation Gui... . Define "PoE device" - make, model, firmware, link to product, link to documentation, data sheet, ... With a metal chassis and metal ports, the switch feels sturdy, though the glossy finish doesn’t feel as professional as either of the Netgear switches.Netgear ProSAFE plus Configuration Utility - permitting the microcontroller is still partially alive, and the NDSP protocol access wasn't disabled.
