About this deal

This is a little bit Sliding Doors, a little bit One Day, a little bit will-they-won't-they - and you're desperate for a happy ending. Jodie Chapman does a brilliant job of describing what happens when life gets in the way of love. A really special book -- Sara Cox The book provided an interesting look at religion and though it was never named, Anna was clearly a Jehovah’s Witness. Anna’s story highlighted that a person isn’t just one thing and people can’t be defined by their religion or relationship. A story of hope over adversity . . . What each woman goes through will resonate with many. The characters are brought to life in a way that will leave you rooting for them. A touching tale about female friendship, finding strength when you need it most GRAZIA

Another Life by Jodie Chapman - read an extract - RTÉ

Thank you to Ella Watkins for inviting me on Another Life’s #BlogTour and to Michael Joseph for my copy of the book in return for an honest review.

It seemed to take me a while to read, but it was becasiw I felt like I wanted to take everything in, rather than wanting to rush to the end like I do in my normal thriller books. Just when I thought I understood her, she would melt away and become a completely new person, and I'd have to start all over again.

While I can understand the comparisons to Sally Rooney – the book did have a very Normal People vibe to it – I definitely could appreciate the story in its own right. I loved it, so glad I read it. Beautifully written, made me think about love and breaking out into a world that is completely different -- Zoey Lyons Just when I thought I understood her, she would melt away and become a completely new person, and I’d have to start all over again. Another Life” is Jodie Chapman’s first novel and she freely admits that Anna’s character is based on her own real life experiences and emotions as a former Jehovah Witness and how she struggled herself with the faith. Featuring grief, faith and religion, suicide, emotional abuse and fear of commitment, the author has conveyed these intense emotions delicately and with empathy.

Another Life is a heartwrenching story about love. Not just romantic love, but the love we have for others too. This love (in every sense of the word) story will speak to anyone who has felt an enduring, p ainful, yet wonderfully beautiful love. From first loves that never really leave you to difficult family dynamics we can spend our whole lives trying to cope with, Another Life is astounding * Inside Kent * If you love sweet, sorrowful coming-of-age tales, you'll love this beautifully written debut * Heat * This book is so different to the normal types I read, and some of these gambles havnt paid off at all for me, but this book is actually really hard to put into words about how good it was.

Stunning. Written with such poignancy, full of nostalgia, unspoken longing and the agony of wrong turns' BETH MORREY This beautiful tale of love, loss and sacrifice will break your heart . . . Perfectly captures the agony of falling in love' DAILY MAILThis beautiful tale of love, loss and sacrifice will break your heart . . . Perfectly captures the agony of falling in love' Daily Mail As the daughter of a librarian Jen's love of books started from a very early age. Her reading obsession continued throughout her teenage years when she studied both English Language and English Literature at college. She wasn’t someone who’d care what they thought. I noticed that straight away. I also noticed how she introduced herself to me on my first shift. Even in the unflattering cut of the cinema uniform, she was not someone your eye would pass over. Some of the girls described her looks as crooked, and there was a certain strangeness to her face, a boldness and strength in the way the bones formed behind her alabaster skin. There was nothing petite in how her features knitted together. I’d never seen another face like hers and the subject of her attractiveness would provoke great debate in the staffroom whenever she left it. I never got involved. She looked just fine to me. We were propping open the double doors to a sold-out showing. I forget which film. As the end credits began, we each stood against a door, waiting for the audience to file out between us. ‘Hi, I’m Anna,’ she said, putting a hand out for me to shake. ‘You’re new, aren’t you?’ I think I mumbled as I took her hand. Not many nineteen-year-olds were in the habit of handshakes or introductions, but like I say, she was different. I don’t recall how I got her number, but life is made of small victories you forget. After losing touch, their lives continue, each getting into new relationships and getting older but they bump into each other quite a lot during the years. She is the one that got away but it could never be. The characters are brought to life in a way that will leave you rooting for them. A touching tale about female friendship [and] finding strength when you need it most' GRAZIA

Chapman w "Innym życiu" (tłum. Szymon Żuchowski) niezwykle sprawnie łączy przejmującą opowieść o dojrzewaniu, klasyczną "love story" w typie nowoczesnego "Romea i Julii". Distinct and so movingly told that as a reader you really root for them to thrive' GOOD HOUSEKEEPING Bellísima narración y personajes muy potentes. This is my honest review of Another Life by Jodie Chapman. Another Life by Jodie Chapman Review: PlotIt’s been on my bookshelf for a while but I’ve only just got around to reading it. I also have Jodie Chapman’s second novel, Oh Sister, on my TBR pile but I decided to start with her debut. Essentially, Another Life is a love story, but not the conventional kind. There’s no “fall in love & happy every after”. Oh no. We all know life gets in the way too often to allow that to happen! Born and raised in England, Jodie spent a decade as a photographer before returning to her first love of writing. She lives in Kent with her husband and three sons. This book broke me in the best way. A heart wrenching portrait . . . It feels a bit like if One Day had been written by Sally Rooney' 5***** READER REVIEW
